Jumbo's Stratego goes mobile with Lunagames & M-Excel
Amsterdam, Netherlands 15 June, 2005 – Jumbo International brings its famous board-game Stratego to mobile with Lunagames and Mobile Excellence International (M-Excel). Stratego is one of the world's most well known board games originally invented over half a century ago. Stratego is traditionally typically associated with a Father and Son gameplay experience, and therefore benefits from a deep emotional heritage attached to childhood memories and the principle of passing on knowledge, wisdom and secret family tricks to the next generation.
Stratego has varied game-play allowing gamers to choose their own starting formation to protect their flag, and find and capture that of their opponent. For young and older boys who want to oppose forces in a softened duel, Stratego is the ideal game as it combines strategy with a pinch of bluff in a sound competition with the ever-popular boy's theme of a battlefield background. This explains the long-lasting success of the game which sold millions of copies since its creation.
Stratego will be made available worldwide in both a single and multi-player version across all key platforms including Java/MIDP, BREW, and Doja/i-mode. Development and worldwide publishing of Stratego Mobile Edition will be completed by Lunagames, and M-Excel in which Lunagames is a key shareholder.
Richard Hazenberg CEO at Lunagames/M-Excel comments: "Jumbo brings extensive experience in the field of board-games and casual gaming, which translates perfectly to mobile".
"At Jumbo, we believe that modern technologies open up the way to incremental growth for our strongest brands", Ronald Pieters, CEO at Jumbo International, observes. "Taking Stratego into mobile phones is therefore a logical development and just a first step towards bringing the experience to more users through one of the new, modern gaming platforms that are available to today's savvy gamers".
Wide interest in Stratego has generated an extensive list of launching partners including the leading Dutch i-mode operator KPN Mobile. Based on the popularity of Stratego in North America, and following the success of previous Lunagames titles like Election 2004, and Air Traffic Control in the U.S., Lunagames/M-Excel will put strong focus in developing and promoting the game in North America.
The launch of the Stratego mobile game is due for the beginning of October.
