Tokyo Game Show organiser Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) pulled out all the stops for this year's event, coordinating cosplay and fighting game tournaments and including dedicated family and PC-gaming areas.
The hard work seems to have paid off, with recent figures released by CESA showing record attendance numbers for TGS this year. According to gaming site GamesOnSmash, 207,647 people wandered the Makuhari Messe halls during the four days of TGS, marking the first time the show has made it past the 200,000 mark. Last year, attendance at the show fell by almost 10,000 from the previous year.
Show organisers also asked attendants to vote on their favourite games of the show this year. According to votes, among the most popular games of TGS 2010 were Vanquish (Sega), El Shaddai (Ignition), Gran Turismo 5 (SCE), Ninokuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi (Level-5), Final Fantasy XIV Online (Square Enix), and Yakuza: Of the End (Sega).
The general public initiatives at this year's show also included the Tougeki Super Battle Opera fighting tournament (an annual Japanese fighting video game tournament hosted by the magazine Arcadia), a CESA-organised tour of the show floor, and a designated area for cosplay competitions.
