Journey embarks spring 2012

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. But for thatgamecompany's Journey, that first step will happen later than originally planned, as the studio has pushed its release window back to spring 2012.

Jenova Chen, creative director for thatgamecompany, today announced the delay on the PlayStation Blog, saying there is "still a ton of care and polish" that the online adventure game needs before its release.

Previously, Journey was expected to arrive by the end of 2011. A closed beta for Journey ran from June to July this summer, and Chen called the trial period a "great success."

A follow-up to 2009's Flower, Journey casts players as a robed adventurer, wandering through an expansive desert world, journeying toward a distant mountain. Gamers will encounter other players on their way and benefit from tackling the game's challenges together.
