House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut rated MA15+ Down Under

In August this year, the Classification Board of Australia effectively banned Sega's upcoming House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut for the PlayStation 3 by giving the game a Refused Classification (RC) rating. According to the board's report on the decision, the game was refused classification due to high-impact violence.

At the time, Sega announced that it would be appealing the board's decision. It now appears that this appeal was successful, with the publisher announcing that the Classification Review Board has reclassified House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut with an MA15+ rating Down Under, with the consumer advice of "strong horror violence, strong course language". The game will ship in Australia on its initial release date of October 27.

"It is with great pleasure that we announce the success of our appeal," managing director of Sega Australia, Darren Macbeth, said. "We are proud to confirm that the game will be released in Australia in its original entirety, with no content altered or removed in any way. We were confident of successfully appealing the board's original decision to refuse classification, and appreciate that the Classification Review Board has made a decision that complies with the current guidelines and framework."

House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut will be released in Australia on October 27 exclusively on the PS3.
