Rocksteady added yet one more award to its shelf of accolades for Batman: Arkham Asylum last week, upsetting Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to pick up a Game Developers Choice Award for Best Game Design. Riding those accolades, Eidos and Rocksteady majority stakeholder Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced this week that the Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on May 11.
Of particular note, console gamers will be able to play the Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition in 3D on both HD and standard-definition TVs, by way of a packed-in set of special glasses. Powered by TriOviz 3D, the game's new play mode will apparently offer gamers an enhanced depth of field while maintaining the Arkham Asylum's original gameplay and gothic visual style.
Beyond the play-in-3D mode, the Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition will also include four challenge maps previously released as downloadable content.
With 2009's acclaimed original having sold 2.5 million units, Square Enix has confirmed that the game will receive a follow-up. GameSpot's previous coverage has more on the Caped Crusader's latest action adventure.
