Xbox Live Rocks the Vote

For more than 15 years, Rock the Vote has targeted its message of political empowerment at young Americans wherever they congregate, from live concerts to MTV. But potential voters are into more than just music, so starting next week, Rock the Vote will be working with Microsoft on an Xbox Live voter-registration drive.

Timed to coincide with the first day of the Democratic National Convention, the Xbox Live effort will let Xbox 360 users take presidential polls, tell candidates what their concerns are, and have voter-registration packets mailed to their homes. The campaign will also include downloadable Rock the Vote public-service announcements.

Microsoft will also have representatives at both the Democratic and Republican conventions to boost awareness of the partnership and educate delegates on the parental-control features of the Xbox 360.

This campaign season, Rock the Vote's goal is to register 2 million young Americans to vote. Xbox Live boasts a membership of 12 million users. To put that into perspective, Microsoft noted that if Xbox Live were a state, it would be the seventh-largest state in the nation, with 20 electoral-college votes.
