NEW YORK, NY - September 28, 2005 - 2K Sports, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: TTWO), announced today that Top Spin, the first online pro tennis title for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, is now available in stores across North America. Based on the #1 rated tennis video game* for the Xbox video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, this latest Top Spin release builds on all of the original features that have made it a top franchise. Among the new additions are online play and Eye Toy USB Camera (for PlayStation2) capability, and tennis stars' Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and Carlos Moya - all of which blend together to create the most authentic virtual tennis experience on the market.
"Top Spin gives tennis fans and gamers a tennis experience to celebrate with stunning visuals and all of the top pros," stated Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. "PlayStation 2 owners now have access to the most critically acclaimed tennis series on the market."
Top Spin allows players to execute a variety of shots during match play including slices, drops, lobs, backhands, and several trick shots including behind the back and between the legs. Just as in real tennis, Top Spin also challenges gamers of all levels to take risks and attempt difficult shots to get "in the zone". If players' Zone Meter timing is successful, they can use that momentum to improve their play. In addition, gamers can play on a variety of surfaces - clay, grass, and hard court. Each surface affects player movements and ball physics differently. Players will choose on which surfaces they want to master their play.
Top Spin is packed with 16 star-caliber athletes that tennis fans can take on, play as, or team up with including: Roger Federer (Switzerland), Carlos Moya (Spain), Lleyton Hewitt (Australia), Gustavo Kuerten (Brazil), Jan-Michael Gambill (USA), James Blake (USA), Sebastien Grosjean (France), Tommy Robredo (Spain), Maria Sharapova (Russia), Venus Williams (USA), Martina Hingis (Switzerland), Meghann Shaughnessy (USA), Elena Dementieva (Russia), Daniela Hantuchova (Slovakia), Amanda Coetzer (S. Africa), and Ashley Harkleroad (USA).
Other features include Coach's Corner, where players train with a coach to improve their weaknesses and perfect their game. In addition, gamers can immerse themselves in the game with Eye Toy, allowing them to scan their virtual "self" onto a customizable character and play against the pros!
As the only online pro tennis game available for the PlayStation 2, Top Spin lets gamers challenge other tennis players from around the world. Matchmaking, sponsored tournaments, seedings, and player ladders are all available online.
Top Spin for the PlayStation 2 is rated "E" for Everyone and is available in North American retail stores for $39.99. For more information, please visit www.2Ksports.com.
